The upshot was that since the Office Starter was pre-installed by computer manufacturer Acer and I do not have the key, once corrupted, it cannot be repaired or replaced, in spite of all the instructions I found on other ‘answers’ posts.

Her only solution was for me to purchase and install the full Microsoft Office program. I believe my Office Starter was corrupted and rendered inoperable when unthinkingly I clicked OK on a small notice box appearing one day with an update for the Starter program.
