My computer gave me a message that Windows 10 has reached end of service and MUST be upgraded to next version. We can’t afford to be down for days right now!!!! This is software specific to running a dairy business and we don’t have a team of highly specialized IT people that can fix it. When I found the setting to delay it for 30 days it said that after 30 days, there would be no choice but to update it I’ve been trying to find out how to stop it with no luck!

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. The message was definitely genuine. It was ready to start upgrading my windows version. There are plenty of other people in this community forum that have had it come up also, although with them it seems it was just a suggestion versus a forced update, but their posts were also from way earlier in the year.

It would not keep popping up since I have delayed it for 30 days, it will come up at the end of the 30 day mark and I will not be able to use the computer until I upgrade. For the purposes of getting me the help I need, please assume it was a genuine message. I am absolutely positive it was. It wasn’t a simple pop up, it was the whole screen going into Windows update mode like it does when it says “Windows is preparing to update your computer”, and then came up with that, and I had an option there to reschedule it for like up to 7 days.

I found instructions online on how to do the 30 days. So I definitely need help on what to do when it comes up at that 30 day mark or we are in deep trouble here at the dairy. I can’t be left with no options when it comes up after the 30 days and says I can’t use the computer anymore until its upgraded.

Since the upgrade requires a working PC, you will not be locked out. You might have to allow the upgrade to go through before resuming your normal work. Under Windows 10 it is notoriously hard to prevent updates from going through.

I can see two options for you:. Upgrade to what? Windows 10 is the latest version of Windows. It has not reached end of service. Microsoft has stated that there will be no further numbered or named versions of Windows. Windows 10 is the last one. However there will be, and has been, new versions. But they are called versions of Windows 10, not something like Windows 11, 12, etc. That’s what Microsoft says today. Might they change their mind some day? Who knows. It showed I had paused updates until Sept 15 I found something online that told me how to do that.

It also had an option to “resume updates”. So I clicked that hoping the message would pop up again and it said “Feature update to Windows 10, version “, getting things ready But here is the interesting thing The OP is talking about automatic updates , not about new versions of Windows.

In reply to Frederik Long’s post on August 26, The message displayed and I was able to pause the upgrade for 30 days following some instructions I found online. The message won’t appear again until the 30 days is up. I did not save a screenshot of it at the time, I was in a panic instead on how to keep it from happening. If the warning is genuine then it will keep appearing.

Thanks so much. In reply to Frederik Long’s post on August 27, Thats the actual problem. I don’t want to allow it to upgrade. I have legacy software that will most likely not work, and can not afford to be down again like we were after the forced upgrade from Windows 7 to I can see two options for you: Keep the PC disconnected from the Internet. Do a Google search with this phrase: how to block updates under Windows Ken Blake.

Windows 11 – Wikipedia

Feature update to Windows 10, version The Windows 10 May Update is on its way. Once it’s ready for your device, you’ll see the update available on this page. I googled the message and learned that some devices may have compatibility problems with this update. Although it’s apparently possible to force the update using Windows Update Assistant, Microsoft doesn’t recommend it. So I just waited patiently, thinking that the update would eventually be tweaked to work with my device.

I would check Windows Update, but the message would always be there. Your version of Windows 10 will reach end of service soon. Click to download a newer version of Windows 10 to stay supported.

When I click the message, it brings me to Windows Update. When I check for updates, I’m told “You’re up to date”. But the message that the May Update is “on its way” is still there. For reference, according to Winver, my Windows 10 version is I don’t have any extra hardware installed.

Nothing unusual. With this one exception, I always keep my software up-to-date. I’m not sure what to do. I’m worried that if I try to force the update through Windows Update Assistant that I will have compatibility problems. But I’m also worried that the May Update will never come and my version of Windows will become unsupported.

I’m not very familiar with audio drivers. I wonder if Windows provides generic drivers that would work. I don’t need anything fancy, but I certainly want the speakers to work.

From the link you posted, I gather that the ball is in Lenovo’s court to do the testing and remediation. I didn’t realize that that was how it worked, so thanks. Your reply put me on the path of the problem being incompatibilities with the laptop.

I did some more digging and found an article from June called “Windows 10 May Update is causing big problems for some Lenovo laptops”, linked here Looking through the list of problems, it seems there are fixes for most of them.

I’m tempted to force the update to see what will go wrong. But I might try to wait a bit longer. I’m tempted to do it, but am worried that some devices another person mentioned audio, for example would simply not work. Yes generic drivers should work. Although Lenovo should provide you an updated driver. The easiest fix is to remove Conexant Audio drivers in the device manager and try again. I am having same problem and receiving same popup in updating Windows from last week.

Sumit Volunteer Moderator Volunteer Moderator. Hi, The only problem with the update is the Conexant Audio driver. In reply to Sumit Volunteer Moderator ‘s post on March 16, Thanks for your reply.

In reply to John DeV’s post on March 16, Hello EricWagensonner, Thank you for updating me with that information. If your laptop is using a Conexant Audio Driver, This is a known issue and is currently under investigation and confirmed status. Even if you have successfully installed the latest version of Windows 10, the updated drivers may not be available causing such audio to not work. You can try but it’s up to you if you continue upgrading. Make sure to backup your important files first.

In reply to EricWagensonner’s post on March 16, Good idea. Thank you. Having the same issue. In reply to JD’s post on March 16, Do I uninstall this driver or wait for the solution by Lenovo or Microsoft? This site in other languages x.
