We had a beautiful start to our 3 day creative workshop!
Day 1 was all about slowing down and connecting with nature.
The group enjoyed:
A walk to Maindee Gateway Garden and St Mary’s Garden
Plant recognition & mindful sketching
Flower and leaf printing onto fabric through a Japanese method, tataki-zomé
Decorating wood slices with floral prints
Refreshments – tea and cake!!
It was great to introduce the group to the pockets of nature and learning about the local Welsh flora and fauna. Having Kathy join us as the nature based expert with her wealth of knowledge to share with the group was insightful.
Aysha R provided a timely faith based reminder about embracing nature and nurturing wellbeing through Allahs creations, signs around us, from the Quran and sunnah.
A huge thank you to young volunteer Syd for bringing this project to life with the support of Grow Wild Kew Gardens
Next we will be translating our sketches at the embroidery workshops where we’ll be inspired by our nature findings!
